Abstract
10 Sep 2026

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of technology perceptions and total cost of ownership on electric motorcycle adoption in Indonesia, with willingness to buy as a mediating variable. It seeks to explain consumer decision-making factors in adopting electric motorcycles within an emerging market context.
Research Methodology: This study employs a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional survey of 400 electric motorcycle users in Indonesia. The proposed model was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine direct and indirect relationships among variables.
Results: The findings show that compatibility and total cost of ownership significantly influence willingness to buy and electric motorcycle adoption. Relative advantage significantly affects willingness to buy but does not directly affect adoption. Perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and vehicle performance have no significant effects on willingness to buy or adoption. Willingness to buy significantly mediates the relationships between compatibility, total cost of ownership, and adoption.
Conclusions: Consumers prioritize economic value and lifestyle compatibility over technological attributes in adopting electric motorcycles.
Limitations: The study is limited to Indonesian users and a cross-sectional design.
Contribution: This study contributes by integrating the Technology Acceptance Model, Innovation Diffusion Theory, vehicle performance, and total cost of ownership while highlighting willingness to buy as a key mechanism in electric motorcycle adoption.
